WARRINGTON Athletics Club were well represented at Saturday’s North of England Road Relays competition in Blackpool, with the club entering teams in seven of the eight races.
The highest placing of the day came in the under15s age group, where the boys team of Oliver Davenport (10mins 42secs), Euan Lawton (11mins 6secs) and Alfie Blizzard (10mins 54secs) combined for a time of 32mins 43secs to finish in seventh place.
In the same age group, the girls team finished 22nd as Emily Kinsey (12mins 7secs), Eva Hayes (13mins 37secs) and Sophie Parkinson (13mins 29secs) teamed up to clock a total time of 39mins 13secs.
Another top-10 finish came courtesy of the women’s under 17s team as Imogen Wharton (11mins 5secs), Hannah Hull (11mins 58secs) and Sarah Ashcroft (13mins 29secs) placed 10th in 36mins 36secs.
A combined time of 1hour 48mins 42secs saw the senior men’s team of Cameron Field (17mins 12secs), Daniel Fox (17mins 29secs), Chris Stanford (17mins 41secs), Jack Wadsworth (18mins 23secs), Jack Pilkington (18mins 46secs) and Adam Rashud (19mins 7secs) finish 22nd in a six-stage race while the senior women’s team of Claire Andrew (21mins 59secs), Ellen Turnbull (23mins 27secs), Faye Lawton (24mins 41secs) and Sharon Taylor (29mins 49secs) finished 44th in a four-stage race.
The day had started with the under 13s age group, with the girls team of Grace Rashud (13mins 17secs), Charlotte Andrew (14mins 47secs) and Lois Johnston Starrs (13mins 36secs) finished 24th while the boys team of Harry Millar (11mins 45secs), Eddie Walker (13mins 9secs) and Aiden Losty (17mins 19secs) finished 40th.
Then on Sunday, there was plenty of Warrington Athletics Club interest in the Warrington Running Festival as members of all ages took part.
Younger members turned out in force for the junior race and were led home by Sebastian Hughes and Alfie Furnival in second and third respectively, with both timed at 5mins 13secs.
Close behind were Evie-May Williams (ifth, 5mins 32secs), Leonard Broadhurst (seventh, 5mins 39secs), Emilia Gandy (eighth, 5mins 42secs) and Oscar Bering (10th, 5mins 57secs).
Rounding off the club's participation in the junior race were Ava Hardman (16th, 6mins 31secs), Edie McArthur (17th, 6mins 35secs), Bella McArthur (23rd, 6mins 58secs) and Taylor Bartley (36th, 7mins 25secs).
In the 5km race, Dave Watson, who has maintained second-claim membership after changing his first claim to Cheshire Dragons, finished in ninth place to win the over 65s age group in a time of 21mins 5secs.
Jack Pilkington clocked a new personal best time of 1hour 16mins 31secs to place 12th in the half-marathon, with Daniel Lunt placing 58th in 1hour 23mins 13secs and Louise Blizzard recording the eighth-fastest women's time - and second-fastest in the women's over 45s age group - of 1hour 31mins 24secs.
