FOR the first time since coming up the club’s banner, Warrington Town’s women’s team are to play a fixture at Cantilever Park.

It has been confirmed that their Women’s FA Cup clash with Accrington Stanley next weekend will take place at the club’s home ground, giving the team the chance to showcase their abilities on a bigger stage.

The match takes place on Sunday, September 22, and kicks off at 2pm and fans can enter the ground to watch at a cost of £3 for adults and £1 for concessions and under 16s.

The two teams both operate in the sixth tier of women’s football, with Town having won one and drawn one of their first five league games in Division One South of the North West Regional Football League.

Accrington are joint-top of Division One North and while aware of the challenge his team faces, manager Kev Larkin is hopeful of a memorable and inspiring afternoon.

“We're all excited to play our first game at Cal.delivery Stadium,” he said.

“It's going to be a memorable game for everyone, and the fact that it's the FA Cup makes it even more special.

“We're expecting a good turnout from the fans, especially from the local girls involved in grassroots football. We hope to inspire them and show the opportunities available in the future.

“Off the pitch, we're preparing well for the challenge of Accrington Stanley, we've got everything in place to give ourselves a great chance, and everyone loves a good cup run, so we hope this won’t be our last game here this season.”

The game will finish off a trio of FA Cup matches to be held at the ground over the next 10 days.

The men’s team play their second qualifying match against Radcliffe on Saturday, while Cantilever Park will also host the under 18s’ FA Youth Cup tie on Tuesday night – kick off for that game is at 7pm, with Radcliffe again the opposition.

With crowds for home games at Tetley Walkers and Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub steadily rising since the team started representing Warrington Town having previously been run under the banner of Warrington Wolves’ Charitable Foundation, women’s team captain Helen Dobson hopes to see some new faces at the FA Cup game.

“The girls are so excited about playing at the Cal.delivery Stadium,” she said.

“The FA cup has been a great competition for us the last couple of years and it will be made even more magical to be playing at the home of Warrington Town and hopefully in front of some new attendees.

“Our attendances at Tetleys and Sankey have been great since affiliating with Town, and we hope that we can attract some of the fans who watch the men play to our game on the 22nd.

“Some of the girls watch the men week in week out, so it's a real honour to be playing at the ground.”
