WARRINGTON Rylands collected their first point of the new season at unbeaten Lancaster City on Tuesday night.

After three successive defeats, Mark Duffy saw the 0-0 draw in the Northern Premier League at the Giant Axe as a point hard earned.

“It was a positive to build on. I thought it was a really good game between two honest and hard-working teams who were fully committed,” said Duffy.

“In the first half we went a little bit more direct and dropped on second balls.

“I thought there were some really good performances from the boys and it’s going to take that throughout the season away from home – Lancaster is a hard place to go, but I thought we stood up to the challenge really well and we had the better opportunities.

“We had two really good chances in the second half and if we’d taken one of those it would have been a fantastic away performance, but it’s definitely something for us to build on.”

Each side had the ball in the back of the net in the first half only to have the potential goals chalked off.

The Dollies, for whom this was a third draw to go with their one win, also hit the post in the opening period.

Rylands created the majority of their chances midway through the second half but City were able to keep them at bay.

Perhaps it will be a concern to Blues that this is the third match of four at the season’s start in which they have failed to score.

Duffy said the players could expect finishing drills to work at at training tonight, Thursday, in preparation for Saturday’s long haul to Morpeth ahead of bank holiday Monday’s visit by Prescot Cables.
