OLIVIA Crawford enjoyed an incredible day on the track that she will not forget in a hurry.

The Warrington Athletics Club sprint hurdler not only won gold in the North of England Athletics Championships for the second year running, she did so by achieving personal best performances that broke a long-standing record three times.

Crawford, 14, bettered her PB of 11.20secs in the girls under 15s 75m hurdles by achieving 10.96secs in her heat at Moorways Stadium in Derby, beating the championship record held by Liz Fairs for 32 years.

The Bridgewater High School student from Stretton went faster still in the semi-finals, clocking 10.95secs to improve her own championship record as well as the club record set by Meg Corker a few years ago.

And then in the final Crawford ran even quicker, crossing the line in 10.87secs but unfortunately the wind speed was twice the legal limit of 2.0 metres per second.

Fairs, 46, who went on to represent her country at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, was at the stadium and so it presented Crawford with an opportunity to meet, chat and pose for pictures with the woman whose record she had taken.

Crawford has been in great form this season.

Prior to this latest success, Crawford triumphed at the Cheshire Championships, clinched the silver medal in the English Athletics Under 15s/Under 17s Championships at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham earlier this month and was fifth in the English Schools Athletics Championships final.

She was honoured with the 2024 Cheshire Physioactive TCAT Sports Personality of the Year Award last month, coming out on top of elite athletes from the different Warrington schools.

Crawford has only been training with Warrington Athletics Club for two-and-a-half years, under coach Neal Petley.

She hopes to go on in the future and represent her country one day.

Crawford was not the only Warrington Athletics Club competitor in record-breaking form in the North of England Championships.

In the under 17s men’s 100m hurdles, Lewis Shaw from St Helens won his heat in 13.17secs beating the Championship best performance and then in the final he broke it again as he won in 13.02secs.

That followed his victories at the English Schools Championships, the SIAB Schools International and the English Athletics Under 15s/Under 17s Championships in Birmingham.

He equalled his personal best 100m hurdles time of 12.94secs in the final, slightly quicker than his semi-final winning time of 12.96secs, to secure first place having earlier won his heat comfortably in 13.41secs.

Second-claim member Evie Elliott finished fifth in the under 17s women’s 300m hurdles in 49.20secs.

In the under 13s age group, Leah Poole competed in three events.

She was second in her 100m heat with 14.12secs, third in the semi-final with 14.09secs and sixth in the final with an electronic PB of 13.93secs.

Then in the 200m heat she finished fourth with 29.66secs and ninth in the long jump with 3.83m.

In the under 15s age group, Alfie Blizzard was fourth overall in the 800m with 2mins 06.23secs.

Thomas Darbyshire was fourth in his 200m heat in a personal best 24.61secs but did not progress further.

Laila Betteley set a new PB 100m time of 14.79secs as she finished seventh in her heat and was sixth in her 200m heat with 31.31secs.

Ellie Barker finished third in her under 17 women’s 300m heat with 42.58secs, qualifying for the final in which she broke 42 seconds for the first time as she finished fourth in 41.88secs.
