LUKE “The Nuke” Littler is heading Down Under – and he does so having given himself a big boost.
Warrington’s teenage sensation takes his prodigious darting talent to the other side of the world this week as he features on the entry list for two World Series of Darts tournaments this month.
This weekend, he will take part in the Australian Darts Masters in Wollongong as he looks to take his tally of title victories to eight this year.
Two of those have come in the World Series of Darts having won Masters tournaments in both Bahrain and Poland while he also picked up his first major title by scooping the Premier League Darts title in his debut season.
He also holds two EuroTour victories having won in Belgium and Austria, while he scooped his second Players Championship title of the year last week, meaning he heads to Australia in good form.
In what was his first tournament since losing in the World Matchplay first round to Michael Van Gerwen, Littler came through the field to beat Dutchman Wessel Niijman 8-6 in the final in Milton Keynes having previously gone 6-5 down.
That came after a victory over Chris Dobey in the semis after he had earlier beaten Krzysztof Ratajski, Rhys Griffin, Jonny Clayton, Pascal Rupprecht and Boris Krcmar.
“I know what Wessel is capable of,” insisted Littler, who maintains his incredible record of winning a title every month this year and becomes the first player to win multiple Players Championships in 2024.
“I’ve seen him dominate the last weekend of the Development Tour, but it was a good final, and I’m happy to be the only player with two [Players Championship] titles this year!
“I’ve not really picked up a dart since the World Matchplay, so to come here and win is even better.
“I’ve got to back myself to win almost everything. With the standard of the other players I probably can’t do that, but I’d love to win another major title this year.”
After the Australian tournament, Littler will compete in the New Zealand Darts Masters tournament in Hamilton over the weekend of August 16-17.
