WARRINGTON’S two Olympic swimmers were in action in the pool this morning, Friday.
James Guy, a former Cardinal High School student, was up first in the men’s 100m fly heat.
This is after the 28-year-old, a former winner of the Warrington Junior Sports Personality of the Year Award, won gold in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay on Tuesday.
However, he could not replicate his exploits in that race when he took to the pool this morning.
At Paris La Defense Arena, he finished eight out of eight in his heat in a time of 52.23.
The 16 fastest from the five heats qualify for the semi-finals, with the remainder, including Guy, therefore eliminated.
Guy still has the defence of the mixed 4x100m medley relay to come over the coming days.
It was better news however for Kathleen Dawson, who was also in swimming action this morning.
She was part of Team GB’s representation in the mixed 4x100m medley relay, which includes men and women.
The 26-year-old former Great Sankey High School student completed the first leg of the heat in a time of 1:00.18.
Despite Dawson, who came through the ranks with Warriors of Warrington Swimming Club, finishing eighth in her leg, her time set Team GB up to finish third overall.
The eight fastest from the heats – which includes Great Britain – qualified for the final, which will take place tomorrow evening, Saturday.
