CROSFIELDS could close in on the top four in National Conference League Division One if they pull off a victory on Humberside on Saturday.

Seventh-placed Soap head over the M62 to face a Skirlaugh side struggling second from bottom but they will need to improve on their display at cellar dwellers Clock Face a fortnight ago when they squeezed home with a narrow victory.

A win at Skirlaugh could leave them a point behind the third and fourth-place clubs, depending on results elsewhere.

Eighth-placed Woolston Rovers return to action in the same division at home to fifth-placed Dewsbury Moor Maroons, kick-off 2.30pm at Monk Sports Club.

Rovers boss Liam Lawton said they were disappointed to come away with nothing from their game at high-flying Leigh Miners Rangers last time out but took a lot of positives from how they competed.

He added: “We had long periods where we were in control, so we just need to take our chances when the opportunities arise.

“Our form over the past couple of months has certainly got steadily better and we are now going into games with plenty of confidence.

“We should have a few lads back this week who missed the Miners game so that will give us a big boost.

“Dewsbury are a tough side who will give us a stern test but if we play to our capabilities then we will have a great chance of closing in on the teams above us.”

Meanwhile, Latchford Albion fell to a controversial defeat on Saturday when a 78th minute penalty goal was the only difference between the two sides.

Folly led 12-0 early in the second half but Albion fought their way back into the game with quickfire tries on 60 and 63 minutes.

Firstly Josh Barnard weaved his way through the Folly defence, before Logan Lagar used his brute strength to power over. Both were converted by Jack Phillips.

The hosts regained the lead with an unconverted try but when Charlie Groarke dummied his way over the scores were level again going into the final five minutes.

With time running out the hosts kicked a penalty to nudge themselves in front.

Albion laid siege to the Folly line and right on the hooter they thought they had scored, but the referee harshly deemed they grounded the ball short of the line.

This Saturday Latchford visit Blackbrook, kick off 2.30pm.

Woolston Rovers A were 28-6 winners at Leyland Warriors after a four-week break from NWML Entry Division action.

Centre Ben Dixon crossed for a second-half hat-trick of tries to go with those touched down by Craig Woolvine and Ben Roberts before the break.

Full-back Ben Roberts was named man of the match.

Rovers ‘A’ player/coach Woolvine said: “It was good to get back out onto the field and play a game; we were understandably a little rusty at times but we overcame that and produced some outstanding rugby.

“Leyland are probably the best side in the Entry Division so to go there and get the win is very pleasing.”
