THIRTEEN swimmers from Warrington are heading over to Ponds Forge International pool in Sheffield this Saturday to compete in the British and English Swimming Championships over the next fortnight.
These former Warriors of Warrington competitors will be representing the City of Liverpool Swimming Club.
The swimmers train up to 20 hours per week at the Liverpool Aquatics Centre, in the 50-metre pool.
This is a huge commitment by the young talents who make the journey down the M62, mornings and evenings, to train under the direction of head coach Darren Ashley and his assistant James Collins.
Ashley was formerly their head coach at Warriors of Warrington and he said: “It’s a privilege to have been able to coach these swimmers from a young age during their development with Warriors and I am extremely proud to have the opportunity to see them achieve their full potential at the City of Liverpool.”
The 13 Warrington swimmers help to make up a 40 strong City of Liverpool squad that have this year qualified for these Championships.
This makes them one of the strongest squads in Great Britain.
These end-of-season competitions are ones in which the top swimmers in each age group swim head to head in their specialist events in a bid to gain a podium finish.
