WOOLSTON Rovers will be looking to build on their recent upturn in form when they travel to Leigh Miners Rangers in National Conference League Division One on Saturday, kick-off 2.30pm.

They will go into the contest on the back of a 48-18 home win against bottom-of-the-table Clock Face Miners.

Rovers NCL head coach Liam Lawton said: “I have been really pleased with how we have played over the past two games and that has set the standard for how we want to compete for the remainder of the season.

“It is no coincidence that since we have started to have a settled team that results have improved.

“The quality we have across the park is really good and the team spirit is excellent so we will go the Miners in a very positive frame of mind.”

Full-back James Tarpey crossed twice against Clock Face, with Ryan Brown, Jake Proudlove, Adam Files, Craig Lawton, Tom Hailey and Kieran Jones also touching down.

Man-of-the-match Lawton landed six conversions and Ben Dixon two.

Lawton said: “We are starting to take control of games and dominating for long periods. We were clinical in our execution and our defence is a lot more resilient.”

Woolston: James Tarpey; Kieran Jones, Kieran Moore, Ben Dixon, Ben Roberts; Ryan Brown, Sean Kelly; Jake Proudlove, Adam Files, Jackson Phillips, Craig Lawton, Dan Fearnley, Harry Files. Subs: Tom Hailey, Callum Harnett-Smy, Sam Wood, Ryan Palin.

Crosfields visit Clock Face Miners this Saturday hoping to put behind them a poor showing in a 26-24 home loss to Ince Rose Bridge on Friday.

The Wigan side gained possession from their own kick-off and scored on the third tackle, leaving Soap to chase the game from then on.

Other than the opening 20 minutes of the second half, when Soap dominated play, they were error laden and forcing the ball, with too many missed tackles thrown into the mix.

Crosfields’ tries were scored by Jamie Abram, Ben Steele, Dylon Braddish and Brad Stanway.

A very young Latchford Albion side were beaten 40-22 at home by Heysham Atoms.

Despite defeat, head coach Martyn Ellis saw a lot of positives.

He said: “We had the majority of our senior players unavailable, but the flip side was it gave us further opportunity to showcase the future. We had eight players from the under 18s step up, with three making their debut.

“Ideally I wanted to integrate them over a period of time but despite their inexperience, the effort and commitment levels were superb.

“With 15 minutes to go we were only six points behind so it shows how well they performed.”

Marshall Hayes crossed twice in the first half, with Jack Phillips adding one goal.

Logan Lagar added a brace in the second period, both converted by Philips.

Woolston Rovers A return to action with a home fixture against Hindley A in the NWML Entry Division on Saturday, kick off 2.30pm at Monk Sports Club.

Rovers ‘A’ player/coach Craig Woolvine is hoping that a run of fixtures over the next few weekends will allow them to gain some continuity and enable them to get some wins.

He said: “We played well in patches against Leyland Warriors but the cohesion and understanding wasn’t there, having not played for so long.

“We have some quality players who I’m sure will benefit from these upcoming games starting with Hindley ‘A’ at home this weekend.”
