THE boys team from Lymm Golf Club made full use of home advantage to be crowned the best in Cheshire.

As a result, the trio of Haydn Wood, Joel Doubleday and Fraser Scott-Herron will now represent the county at the English Junior Team Championships later this year.

The threesome scooped the top prize at the Cheshire Junior Team Championships, beating out competition from clubs around the region as more than 90 juniors competed.

With the tournament being held at their home course, they looked on course to follow in the footsteps of the 2018 Lymm team that made the final – and even go one better.

They were early starters and good scoring from the trio saw them set a stiff target of 79 for the chasing pack to beat.

The main challenge came late in the day courtesy of a strong Alsager side, who closed the gap to just two points thanks in no small part to Ted Myatt’s 43-point haul that earned him the top individual prize.

However, it was not enough to overhaul the home side who were crowned champions and received their trophy from Graham McCormack, the CUGC under 14s manager and England Golf’s winner of the 2024 Lifetime Service Award.

A CUGC plaque was also presented to Lymm captain Philip Young by way of thanks to his club for staging the event.
