TWO of Warrington Athletics Club’s masters athletes came away with age-group victories from the same race on Saturday.

Steve Watmough and Dave Gill made the short trip to the Halewood 5km road race and were the fastest runners home in their respective age groups.

Watmough came 10th place overall in a time of 17mins 54secs – the quickest time for over 60s – while Gill was close behind in 29th in 19mins 53secs as he won the over 65s category.

Earlier in the week, some of the club’s younger members were in personal-best form at Trafford Athletics Club’s Grand Prix meeting.

Over 800m, under 20s Orla Gregory (2mins 18.56secs) and Lucie Davies (2ins 25.02secs) set new best times as they finished third and fourth respectively in their races, with Siobhan Gregory (2mins 30.03secs) finishing seventh behind Lucie in Race Nine.

Race 10 saw the Gregory twins – under 17s runners Sinead and Cara – finish second and fifth respectively with Sinead setting a new best time of 2mins 30.65secs while Cara’s time of 2mins 39.72secs was her quickest of the season.

Sebastian Hampson lowered his 1,500m personal best to 4mins 39.86secs as he finished his race in the same age group in eighth, while Jack Marwood ran his fastest 3,000m time of the season in finishing 13th in 8mins 55.54secs.

Another five youngsters from Warrington took part in a Medal meeting held by the Trafford club, with races being run as mixed events including both boys and girls.

Daniel Kelly (2mins 6.81secs) and Ettie Rashud (2mins 15.50secs) were fifth and eighth respectively over 600m while in a separate race over the same distance, Bella McArthur clocked a personal best 2mins 24.63secs in finishing seventh.

Grace Rashud finished fifth in her under 13s 800m race in 2mins 48.14secs while Rosie Carters and Daniel Kelly both competed in two events.

Both raced over 75m – Rosie was sixth in her race in 11.52secs while Daniel was seventh in his in 13.18secs – while Rosie also competed in the 150m, finishing fifth in 23.26secs.

Daniel also recorded a personal best of 2.63m in the long jump as he finished 15th.
