LUKE Littler produced some stunning darts at times in New York this weekend, but it was not enough to claim the US Darts Masters title.

The Warringtonian sensation hit the stage at the famed Madison Square Garden looking for his second World Series of Darts title having picked up the Bahrain Darts Masters crown earlier this year.

And in brutal demolitions of his first two opponents in Matt Campbell and Jeff Smith, he looked very much on course to do that.

However, he ran into a clinical Gerwyn Price in the semi-finals, with the Welshman edging a thrilling contest in a deciding leg by hitting a 108 finish to win 7-6.

That came after “The Nuke” had fought back from 6-3 down to level a match in which he hit eight 180s, but it was not enough.

Price advanced to the final, where he was beaten 8-7 by Rob Cross, who fought back from 6-4 and 7-6 down to lift the trophy.

Littler averaged an impressive 103 across his three matches, with a 6-2 thumping of America’s Smith setting up his last-four clash with Price.

On Friday, the 17-year-old had thrashed Campbell 6-0 in the first round to get himself moving in the tournament as he dispatched the Canadian darter, whom he beat during his run to the World Championship final, with ease.

Littler is next due in action in a fortnight as he returns to Europe to take on the Poland Darts Masters over the weekend of June 15-16.
