WARRINGTON-BORN Jarell Quansah has picked up his first winner’s medal in senior football.
The defender, who turned 21 at the end of last month, was part of a youthful Liverpool side that secured a dramatic extra-time victory over Chelsea to lift the EFL Cup at Wembley.
Quansah – a former junior at Woolston Rovers FC – came on as a substitute for the second half of extra time with the game goalless.
It appeared as though penalties would be required to separate the sides but with two minutes of the extra period remaining, Reds skipper Virgil van Dijk headed home from a corner to spark wild celebrations.
It is a new high in a Reds shirt for Quansah, who has made something of a breakthrough at Anfield this season after a promising youth career that saw him be part of the England squad that won the Under 19s European Championship in 2022.
He has made 20 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season, the majority of which have come in cup competitions, and scored his first goal for the club in the Europa League defeat to Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise in December.
