WARRINGTON’S Rhiannon Dixon will be fighting for a world title in April.
The 28-year-old from Great Sankey, who is trained by Anthony Crolla, will go toe-to-toe with experienced Argentinian Karen Carabajal for the vacant WBO world lightweight title at the AO Arena in Manchester.
It will be the former St Gregory’s High School student’s first fight since being crowned EBU European lightweight champion in September when she defeated Katharina Thanderz at Wembley.
Fighting pharmacist Dixon, who is undefeated in nine fights as a professional, will be put to the test by a 33-year-old from Buenos Aires who went the distance with Ireland superstar Katie Taylor at Wembley 15 months ago although comfortably beaten by decision when Taylor’s undisputed world lightweight titles were on the line.
Carabajal, who is nicknamed ‘Burbuja’, was undefeated until then and since, with a record of 21 wins – three by knockout – and one loss over a 10-year period.
