WARRINGTON will be represented in the Women’s Artistic Gymnastics British Championships by a Culcheth schoolgirl.
Savanna Pennington, 11, will be the only competitor of primary school age to take part in the sport’s most prestigious domestic event at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool from March 14 to 17.
This has been a long-hold goal for Savanna, who has shown a lot of commitment and dedication to get to the level she is now at.
Her mum, Adele, said her daughter is very excited to have the opportunity to shine on the big stage.
The Culcheth Primary School student qualified when competing in last year’s Women’s Artistic Gymnastics compulsory level 2 event at Fenton Manor in Stoke, placing sixth in Great Britain in her age group and passing the grade with a score of 57.600.
That achievement confirmed Savanna as an elite gymnast at the age of 10 and it opened up a few more opportunities for the 2024 North West Squad member.
“She travelled to Lilleshall National Sports Centre to train with the national coaches as a reward for her performance,” said Adele.
Savanna’s coach Natalia Hunter, who she has been working with since aged six, and her club, Sparks Gymnastics in Heywood, are very proud of her work and success.
Her journey started under coach Anna McGrath at The Wire Gymnastics Club in Warrington.
She enjoys all sports and regularly represents her school.
Adele said: “Savanna’s school is fantastic and make it possible for her to thrive in education as well as in her sport.”
