NOW that Ashley Nemits has had a taste of representing Great Britain, she wants more!
The Appleton 400m star is eager to build on a cracking set of results from 2023 and make her mark again.
Nemits, a former Bridgewater High School student who continued her education at Warrington and Vale Royal College, has her sights on achieving as many more GB appearances as possible in 2024, while she is also targeting the under 23s indoor and outdoor national titles along with reaching the British Championships senior final.
The 19-year-old, who came through the ranks at Warrington Athletics Club but is now coached by Trevor Painter at Wigan & District, has just got better and better, second by second, over the past 12 months.
Her achievements, in chronological order, during 2023 started with becoming under 20s indoor 400m national champion in Sheffield on February 12 in a personal best 54.17secs.
Ten days later she was called up for Great Britain for the first time, to compete in the Dynamic New Athletics (DNA) U20 Indoor Match in Madrid, Spain.
Nemits was part of a mixed relay team who won and in the process contributed to Team GB winning the overall meeting.
Despite coming back from time out with injury, Nemits was second in the under 20s 400m at the England Athletics Open Championships in Chelmsford with 54.62secs on June 18.
She convinced the international selectors she was ready for another Team GB shot, receiving the call-up to compete in the Bauhaus Juniorengala in Manheim, Germany, six days later.
There, she placed second in the 400m in a new PB 54.01secs and second with the 4x400m relay team as well.
Her focus quickly turned to winning her third GB call-up for the under 20s European Championships in Jerusalem, Israel.
That was duly the case, and she ran three consecutive personal bests on August 7, 8 and 9 - heat 53.95secs, semi 53.38secs and the final 53.00secs.
Nemits finished fifth in the final, with only 0.3 seconds separating her from the bronze medal winner.
All of that was achieved on the back of managing an injury situation, too.
