WARRINGTON’S Stoke City striker Nathan Lowe has received an England call-up.
The 18-year-old former Lymm High School student will head to Montenegro with Simon Rusk’s England Under 19s squad next week for three UEFA U19 Euro qualifying matches.
These will be against Montenegro, Wales and Austria on October 11, 14 and 17 respectively, all to be played at DG Arena Lješkopolje in Podgorica.
It is the latest significant moment and signpost of Lowe’s growing reputation in the professional ranks.
The former Warrington Schoolboys representative has already had the Potters fans chanting his name from the terraces, thanks to the striker coming off the bench and scoring the last-gasp winner in a red and whites 3-2 success at Bristol City in the Championship on Saturday.
He was then handed his full debut in a 1-0 home loss to Southampton at the bet365 Stadium on Tuesday.
Lowe said this week that the winning strike at Ashton Gate, his first senior goal for the club, was the stuff of his dreams and a moment he will never forget.
“It was one of those things where the night before I was sitting on my bed and dreaming of that moment,” he said.
“It was a classic striker’s goal, probably one of the easiest goals I’ve scored this season and maybe that I’ll score all season, but they all count and I’m definitely going to remember it.
“I was watching the play unfold and I was thinking ‘right, get between the sticks’ and then when the ball was coming across I was thinking ‘please do not be offside and please do not miss’.
“And then when you’re looking at our away fans falling down the stairs and then the chanting afterwards, it was surreal.
“I’ve been at the academy since I was 10 and it’s something I’ve always wanted to do. And now I’m doing it I can’t put it into words, it’s mindblowing.”
WATCH HIS GOAL IN THIS HIGHLIGHTS CLIP:
Stoke manager Alex Neil threw him into the action at the 65th minute mark as a reward for his display off the bench in the EFL Cup third round at Bournemouth three days earlier.
“He said I did well against Bournemouth and to just do the same again but score this time if possible, so I was happy to oblige,” said Lowe, who made his first-team debut off the bench in a 1-0 defeat at Blackpool in February this year.
“I think I’m quite a patient person and I’ve waited a while for my opportunity.
“I’ve been on the bench about 12 times this season and last, though I got injured last season.
“The culture around the club is really good. Everyone’s very welcoming and supportive, and they’re willing to use young players. If we’re good enough, we’re old enough, which is obviously very helpful for me.
“It’s a nice place to be because when you make a mistake they’re not getting on to you because they understand that you’re young and that you’re going to make mistakes.
“Even in the changing rooms after the Bristol game they were all so buzzing for me and that’s really nice to see.”

Neil likes the predatory instinct of his young striker.
“I thought Nathan was terrific when he came on against Bournemouth and that sort of performance earned him his minutes against Bristol City,” said the Stoke City boss.
“He’s been training well with us and then when he came on at Bristol he got his goal.
“There’s no better feeling as a coach when you put a young lad on, particularly when he’s a lifelong fan, and he gets the winner.
“It’s about smelling where the ball’s going to land and making sure you put yourself in the most prominent and dangerous position.
“To be fair to Lowey, he’s scored goals throughout his youth career.
“Obviously this is a big jump up, but I don’t think that instinct ever goes away and that’s obviously what got him his goal.”
Now he will be dreaming of more goals, and they will be for his country as well!
