FC United of Manchester have had the three points they earned from beating Warrington Town earlier this season struck from their record.
Town slipped to a 1-0 defeat to the Red Rebels at Cantilever Park on September 24, but the visitors have been found to have broken league rules during the game.
They fielded six loan players during the game when regulations only allow a maximum of five to be in a matchday squad.
One of said loan players – Fleetwood Town striker Will Russ – scored the second-half winner for FC while goalkeeper Wyll Stanway, who was borrowed from Chester, made several superb saves to keep Yellows at bay.
“At the game against Warrington Town on the 24th September 2022, the club mistakenly fielded six loan players instead of the maximum five that are allowed,” an FC United statement read.
“As a result, the club will be deducted the three points gained in this fixture.
“Whilst the club does undertake due diligence on players and endeavours to make sure that all checks are in place, on this occasion there was an oversight in checking what was allowed on the field.
“We would like to reassure our supporters and especially our players that we are tightening up on our procedures, to mitigate these mistakes, and that staff do not take the impact of this lightly.
“Whilst we share our fans’ frustration that these hard-fought points are lost, the loss has had a deep impact on the staff and volunteers at the club who work tirelessly for the benefit of FC United.
“We would also like to ask that you continue to give your positive support to the players in what has been a successful run of recent games.”
