JORDAN Jones was able to take more than a minute off his 10km personal best despite horrendous conditions in Yorkshire on Sunday.

Running in continuous torrential rain, the Warrington Athletics Club member completed the Leeds Abbey Dash road race in 31mins 42secs which saw him finish 62nd overall.

Also competing in the race were three of the club’s masters athletes – Dave Norman, Dave Gill and Mervyn Ward.

Norman was the next to finish, coming home 379th in 38mins 12secs, while Gill’s time of 39mins 6secs saw him place first in the over 65s age group and 421st overall.

It also secures him as part of the England team for the upcoming Home International cross country race.

Ward’s time of 43mins 10secs saw him place fifth in the over 65s age group and 697th overall.

A day earlier, two teams from Warrington Athletics Club travelled to Sheffield to take part in the Northern Cross Country Relays.

Both of the club’s entries were in the under 13s age group, with a boys and girls team taking part.

For the boys, Oliver Davenport finished the first stage in exactly six minutes and was 13th as he handed over to Isaac McGuffie, who charged through the field.

He recorded the fifth fastest time of the race as a whole – 5mins 35secs – to get the team up to second place as he handed over to Euan Lawton.

He clocked a good time of 5mins 52secs and while he could not hold the position, he completed an impressive combined time of 17mins 27secs.

In the girls race, Eva Hayes ran well on the first stage and posted a time of 6mins 25secs to hand over in 11th place.

Sophie Parkinson took over and fought hard to record a time of 7mins 7secs, with the team sitting 18th as Orlaith Clarke started the final stage.

She managed to pull a place back, completing her leg in 7mins 9secs to bring the team home in 17th with a combined time of 20mins 41secs
