HOLLY Lam-Moores’ London 2012 debut ended in defeat in an historic clash at the Copper Box.
The 22-year-old, who grew up in Orford, figured in the first British women’s team to compete in handball at an Olympic Games and produced a creditable performance against much more experienced opposition.
She was left out of the starting line-up due to carrying an injury but was on court for Britain’s best period of the game in the 31-19 defeat to medal contenders Montenegro.
Britain were trailing 18-12 at half time but left back Lam-Moores and her five teammates kept the additional scoring to 4-4 in the opening 17 minutes of the second period.
Three quick goals by Montenegro put them 25-16 ahead and marked the end of Lam-Moores’ night’s work.
Eight unanswered goals in eight minutes, at a time when coach Jesper Holmris was urging his team to retain possession for longer periods, put the game beyond TeamGB.
Team GB will be next in action against Russian Federation on Monday at 2.30pm.
