WARRINGTON Wizards aim to confirm second place in LHF Healthplan National League Three when they travel to St Albans Centurions in the final game of the regular season on Saturday.
Wizards made it eight straight victories on Saturday with a fantastic 22-14 victory over 'minor premiers' Bramley Buffaloes, inflicting only the second defeat of the season on the leaders.
Hooker Wes Lawton is likely to be the only absentee from Saturday's line-up due to a holiday and head coach Eddie Harris remains confident.
Harris was a happy man after the defeat of Bramley and said: "The lads dug deep and thoroughly deserved the win.
"I was proud of every one of my players. It meant a lot for them to get the victory as they are desperate to clinch second spot and that showed in the performance.
"Our defence was unbelievable and it was only in the fifth minute of injury time that Bramley managed to breach it."
Harris added: "We need to put that game to the back of our minds now and get the right result at St Albans.
"We know it will be difficult as they need a win to claim fourth place and a home play-off game, but if we go with the same attitude as we have had for the past eight games then we have a great chance."
Wizards and Buffaloes were tied 2-2 at half time in their ferocious Wilderspool battle, with Wizards finally taking the lead for the first time two minutes into the second period.
Chris Campbell's slick pass put centre Mark Roughneen in at the right corner.
Buffaloes regained the lead with three penalties but Wizards hit back with one of the best tries that will be seen this season.
Campbell's long ball found centre Chris Malone and his slick pass sent winger Ian Stephenson away. His lovely inside ball allowed Malone to race away and score beneath the posts.
Mellor added the simple conversion to that try and to the one scored by Matt Wilson, before Mark Roughneen wrapped up Wizards' scoring.
Wizards: Chris Campbell; Ian Stephenson, Chris Malone, Mark Roughneen, Stuart Pirrie; Alan Kilshaw, Craig Harris; Luke Worsley, Steven Smythe, Anthony Beckett, Danny Shaw, Matt Wilson, Chris Mellor. Subs: Andy Addison, Wes Lawton, Scott Davidson, Dave Kelly.
* Wizards will set off for St Albans from The Village Hotel on Saturday at 8.45am.
