GREENALLS Padgate St Oswalds are drawing closer to a Cheshire League One title after a good week saw them move to within three points of leaders Pilkington with two games in hand.
Looking for a league title to go alongside their recent cup success, Greenalls will have eyes for all three points when they host Garswood United on Saturday, with a win enough to take them top on goal difference.
Styal 1 Greenalls PSO 1
GREENALLS travelled to Styal hoping to meet the same team that suffered a 7-1 drubbing at PSO’s hands a few weeks ago, but were disappointed to see a host of new faces in the line-up.
The hosts had obviously learnt from their last disastrous meeting with Greenalls and were the dominant team in the opening exchanges, but failed to threaten the visitor’s goal.
Against the run of play, Lee Deakin beat two defenders with his pace before a third tripped him in the box and handed the grateful Greenalls a penalty, which Robbie Hanley dispatched to give the visitors a narrow half time lead.
Unlike the first half, Greenalls were on top in the second, with Deakin proving troublesome for the hosts and Hanley twice going close to extending their lead.
But just like in the first half, it was the team under the cosh that managed to grab the goal, with a Styal substitute firing into the top corner to earn a draw for the home side.
Greenalls PSO 1 Club AZ 0
IN a scrappy affair that saw neither side take control, it was a Ben Slater goal that proved the difference for title-chasing Greenalls.
They were 1-0 up after just 12 minutes, as Slater raced clear of the AZ defence and produced a lovely lob that left the keeper stranded.
Club AZ were struggling to create any chances of note and though the hosts looked more likely to extend their lead, they were happy to finish the game with a clean sheet and three valuable points.
