GLAZEBURY bowed out of the Team Knockout Cup at the first round stage after a 39-run defeat at Wilmslow Wayfarers on Sunday.
The home team totalled 181 for seven batting first, accelerating the runs rate late on after Jack Warhurst, three for 20, and Chris Ayre, two for 26, had restricted their progress initially.
In reply Wayne Hargreaves, 51 not out, and Andy Calvert, 35, got Glazebury off to a solid start before a sticky period half way through their innings saw wickets fall.
Ayre made 18 not out before they closed on 142 for seven.
Gerard Southworth’s brilliance was not enough to save Glazebury’s second string from a crushing 128-runs defeat at Frodsham in Division Three on Saturday.
His five-wicket haul was a highlight for the visitors as Frodsham racked up 182 for nine.
He top-scored with an unbeaten 21 in the Warrington outfit’s reply, which stalled quickly at 54 all out.
They will hope to bounce back against Offerton on Saturday.
