FORM reports from Lymm Angling Club waters have been very thin on the ground during the past week.

Perhaps members have been preoccupied with other activities over the bank holiday weekend.

The few reports I have received indicate that action has been quite good, with Shakerley Mere, Founders Pool, Grimsditch Mill Pool and Whitley Pool producing some nice carp.

Lymmvale and Whitley Pool are producing good nets of tench, although member Eddie Jones reports that the tench have been giving increasingly shy bites on Whitley Pool.

On the rivers, action has improved on our Welsh stretches of the Severn and Vyrnwy, with grayling now forming a reasonable percentage of catches.

Tiny Wincham Brook is also producing grayling in among chub, dace, roach and perch.

Work to fit a new gate has been completed, although work continues to remove the fly-tipped rubbish.

There is a new way members can help the club and that is to join night patrols.

Such members will not have to be bailiffs, but must be prepared to take instruction from the night patrol team leader.

Acting as a bailiff at night is done under the strict conditions of our night bailiff policy and is an aspect of club activities under the strict control of the head bailiff.

If you feel you could help with these activities, give head bailiff Mick Gittins a call on 01928 566084.

Touching on night activities, this is the time of year when night permits can really come into their own.

The dark nights are already drawing in quickly and even now it means members without a night permit have to leave the waters relatively early, often just when shy biting fish get bolder under the cover of darkness.

Action can be amazing during the months of September and October, with fish still hungry during a period when natural food is diminishing fast.

Preparations are already being made for the next annual meeting and the club seeks nominations from the membership for those who can actively help run the club.

Such nominations for the committee need to be in writing and signed by two members, and they then need to be in the hands of the secretary by 7.30pm on October 2, as do proposals.

The annual meeting is scheduled to take place on October 16 at the Bank Quay Social Club in Warrington.

I can be contacted on 411774 but be prepared to leave a message.
