WARRINGTON Anglers' Association members should expect the River Dane to be in fine form.

The Dane is a chocolate colour and a raging torrent but last week - just before the rains - plenty of chub to 4lbs were caught. When it calms down you can expect some good sport because the fish will be ravenous.

The Trent and Mersey Canal at Acton Bridge produced a mixed net of roach and skimmers to pole-fished caster and hemp for new member Dave Highton. His estimated catch was 12lbs.

The ICI works stretch was targeted by keen eel angler Steve Brooks and resulted in fish of 4lbs 12ozs 0drms and 5-2-0.

That section of canal for some reason, possibly because of its proximity to the River Weaver, consistently produces quality eels. More reports would be welcome.

Please note that we are holding the women's National Federation of Anglers regional match at Ackers Pit on September 9, draw 11am. It is open to all members and any other interested women, who are over 16 years of age and are NFA members or belong to an NFA member club, can contact Lynda on 01928 716238 for details.

We have received complaints from local people of members with vehicles fishing on Grey Mist Mere without a car park key.

The problem is that they are parking on private land and in Bridge Lane and causing an obstruction.

As we always endeavour to maintain good relations with our neighbours, this situation is unacceptable and gives our association a bad name.

The committee are adamant that we do not need members who discredit our club.

For members who have received reminders, it is too late at this stage to resign without first paying your 2006 subscription.

When you join you contract to abide by the rules and there is only one month from when the cards go out to do this without incurring payment.

After that time other paying members' money is used to cover your share of NFA club membership, rents and overheads. You don't only owe it to the club, you owe it to your fellow anglers!

If you are sending your licence for payment by post the recent postal changes have made it necessary to use an A5 envelope. Open your card at its middle fold and place it in the envelope to reduce the thickness, allowing it to then be posted at the smaller letter rate.

Let me have your catch reports on 01928 716238, fax 01928 713898 or e-mail frank@warrington-anglers.org.uk. HQ Parker Street will be open as usual tomorrow, Friday, between 7pm and 9.30pm for subscriptions and new memberships.
