Cardinal Newman 24 All Saints 12.

FORMER Wolves prop forward Tony Humphreys is full of praise for his cup-winning Cardinal Newman girls' year nine rugby league team.

They won the Powergen Champion Schools Tournament for the second year running at RAF Uxbridge in London on Friday and paraded the cup to 65,000 fans during the half-time interval of the Challenge Cup Final at Twickenham on Saturday.

Coach Humphreys said the deserved win was a result of 12 months of hard work and added: "The team's attitude on and off the pitch was fantastic.

"All Saints were a very good team and it was a difficult match.

"All of our players needed to step up their game and they did."

Jodie Cunningham's hat-trick proved the difference as Cardinal Newman produced a devastating second-half display against the Huddersfield side.

Paige Eli gave All Saints an early lead before Cunningham levelled by squeezing over in the corner.

Jasmine Baker edged the Yorkshire side back in front but a well-worked scissors dummy saw Elizabeth Gladman tie the scores at 8-8 just before the break.

Cunningham quickly crossed twice after the interval before Emily Rudge and Jenny Parker wrapped up the win.
