APPLETON extended their lead to 31 points at the top of Cheshire Cricket Alliance Division Two with Saturday's draw against in-form Disley.

A wonderful second-wicket stand of 124 between Tom Lomas, 70, and Dave Hurst, 53, saw the home side turn round a relatively poor start.

A flurry of wickets saw the middle order collapse to 134 for 5 but thanks to a seventh-wicket stand between Ed Sygrove and Pete Worrall, the south Warrington side pushed the total to 198 for 6 off their allotted overs.

Disley's bright start was soon quashed by some great bowling from Brian Woods, who bagged a four-wicket haul.

Appleton kept chipping away at the Disley order, taking nine wickets and gaining a sniff of victory, but Disley held on for a draw.

Gareth Bailey's classic 57 in Appleton's 173 helped the second team earn a deserved win at Disley as they climbed to second in the table.

Stuart Bate fulfilled his promise with the ball and took four valuable wickets, with Darbyshire, Towy and McClellan each taking a victim to help bowl out the home side for 161.

A depleted Appleton third team snaffled a draw at Glazebury.

Ormson and Rashid took a couple of wickets each but could not stop the home side knocking an impressive 219.

Appleton's top three batsmen toiled hard and set a platform to build on, but Glazebury's bowling attack was too strong and Appleton reached 154 for 7 before the overs ran out.
