WOLVES loose forward Ben Westwood will be ignoring Leeds Rhinos' recent form when the clubs collide in Super League at Headingley on Friday.

The Yorkshire giants ended a five-match losing run with a 14-10 win at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats last time out but the 25-year-old, who has been named in England's train-on squad this week, will be paying no attention to that poor record.

Westwood, hoping to play through the pain barrier against Rhinos with a knee injury, said: "I don't think Leeds played that well against Wakefield, although I'm not sure if that's because Wakefield played well.

"Leeds scraped a win but half back Danny McGuire will be back for them this week after missing four games with injury and a player like him can make a difference to a team.

"It's like Lee Briers with us, it makes a difference when he doesn't play.

"We've beaten Leeds with Danny McGuire in the side before and we've beaten them when they were on their top form and had won eight out of eight.

"We'll take confidence from that. We're a really good side when we play at our best and we know we can beat the top teams.

"It only seems to be St Helens that always get the better of us and we're due a win against them."

Westwood's attentions remain focused on helping Wolves finish the season as high as they can in the top six in readiness for the play-offs but he is also keeping an eye on the bottom end of the ladder, where any one of five teams could still end up facing relegation.

Wakefield, his previous club, and Castleford, the club he supported as a junior, are in that mix and favourites to make the fall.

Westwood said: "I think it will come down to the last game of the season between Castleford and Wakefield, and I think Wakefield will win that game and send Castleford down.

"However, I want Cas to stay up and Wakefield to go down. I'm not bothered about Wakefield to tell you the truth, but I do think it will be Cas that go down."
