TOWN'S joint manager Glenn Walker says his men need to stick together this week as they bid to earn their first UniBond League points of the season.

The Yellows entertain Belper Town on Saturday and then travel to Gresley Rovers on Monday, both games kicking off at 3pm, on the back of a 3-0 defeat at home to Kidsgrove Athletic on Tuesday.

Walker described the team's performance as the worst for 12 months despite having felt encouraged by the narrow defeat at Bradford Park Avenue three days earlier.

"The players have to stop pointing fingers at one another and have some solidarity but it is hard with an inexperienced team," said Walker.

"We need someone on the pitch to put their foot on the ball and take control of the game. It's a lot of kick and rush at the moment.

"But it's early days and the young kids in the side will get better for the experience.

"We were missing too many players on Tuesday against Kidsgrove and we didn't perform.

"I don't think we had one shot during the game."

Town, who will have Phil Mitchell back from suspension on Monday, conceded goals in the 17th, 52nd and 69th minutes against Kidsgrove, who are one of the promotion favourites.

TOWN were beaten by highly-fancied Bradford Park Avenue in their season opener on Saturday.

The Yellows handed debuts to five players and almost took the lead early on when Graeme Mitchell's header flashed across the goal.

Andy Potter also narrowly missed the target with an effort before Park Avenue's former Premiership star Neil Redfearn fired a shot just over the bar.

Ian Lowe then denied Bradford's Neil Ross in a one-on-one before Steve Akrigg gave Town the lead in the 29th minute with his first senior goal, driving home from the edge of the box.

Bradford rallied but Town staved off their advances until the 62nd minute, with Dave Tickle clearing off the line and Lowe making a smart save.

But Ross scored twice in two minutes, with a close-range effort and a diving header both finding the net, to turn the game on its head.

Town pushed for an equaliser but Chris Fitzsimmons' strike was saved and Steve Latham drove wide following a goalmouth scramble.
