THE princesses of schools rugby league will be going for glory again in London during Powergen Challenge Cup Final weekend.

Cardinal Newman's year nine girls have reached the Powergen Champion Schools Tournament final for the third year in a row and will be bidding to defend their trophy against Huddersfield school All Saints.

The two teams, who have qualified from regional festivals and then as winners of groups from the national stage, will clash at RAF Uxbridge Stadium today, Friday.

Cardinal Newman, who are coached by ex-Wolves forward Tony Humphries, defeated Bradford team Queensbury 28-16 in Cardiff at year eight level last year, making amends for a 20-8 defeat to the same side in 2004.

Humphries' girls certainly believe that defence is the best form of attack.

Newman defeated teams from London, Cockermouth, Dewsbury and Glasgow, without conceding a try, to emerge as winners of group one at the national stage, while they previously conceded only one try in four matches to succeed in the north west festival.

Squad: Gemma Benns, Emily Carters, Lucy Edwards, Jodie Cunningham, Harriet Ellison, Elizabeth Gladman, Jess Green, Chloe Leech, Danielle McKay, Emily Murphy, Jenny Parker, Emily Rudge.
