FORMER Wolves prop Danny Lima has revealed that an article in the Warrington Guardian prompted him to make his perfect move to Warrington Wizards.

Lima, who is currently on loan with Super League club Salford, has long expressed ambitions to move into coaching full time when his playing days end and was involved with Latchford Albion last season.

The 31-year-old seized the opportunity to get involved with Wizards after reading in the May 18 edition of the Warrington Guardian that Eddie Harris had reversed his decision to quit as head coach of the LHF National League Three club, admitting that he needed extra coaching help to cope with his heavy workload.

It has proved to be a match made in heaven as Wizards have won all six of their games since the arrival of Lima, who is an assistant to Harris alongside Karl Taylor, as well as producing a good performance in the Fairfax Cup sevens tournament.

Lima said: "I saw the article in the Warrington Guardian and I left it for a while, but a week and a half later I rang Eddie and offered to help out. So far it has been good and we've won six out of six.

"I was coaching with Latchford Albion in the off-season and they were promoted to the Premier Division of the North West Counties League.

"We were in three finals of the Warrington cup competitions as well and that was really good for the club.

"But it's been good at Wizards because I've been able to take some of the training and do the fitness that I've wanted to do."

As well as playing under Paul Cullen at Wolves, Lima worked with an impressive list of coaches during his time in the NRL - Queensland legend Mal Meninga, Newcastle Knights coach Michael Hagan, Hull boss Peter Sharp, Phil Gould, Adrian Lam and Des Hasler - and is keen to use the knowledge he has gained to forge a coaching career.

He said: "The goal is to be a head coach and it's just getting the habit of talking to the lads and getting my point across.

"But I worked with a lot of good people in Australia. I've learned a lot from them - and from my time at Wolves too - and have a lot of knowledge."

Wizards' six straight wins have lifted them to third in the table with only three games remaining, and they could move above Hemel Hempstead Stags into second if they clinch a home win against Gateshead Storm at Wilderspool on Saturday at 2pm.

They will be without the suspended Craig Harris and the unavailable quartet of Danny Shaw, Neil Smith, Anthony Beckett and Jon Cole, but Andy Addison and Matt Taylor should return after long absences.

Harris said: "We have got ourselves into an excellent position in the table and a win on Saturday will almost guarantee us third place.

"But we still harbour hopes of catching Hemel in second place, so we cannot afford to rest on our laurels."
