FOUR swimmers from Warriors of Warrington competed in the ASA Youth and Open National Championships this week at Sheffield.

They had to compete in dual age-group categories but three swimmers gained two or more top 20 placings.

Jonathan Gatley achieved five personal best times in the 17 to 18-year-old group - 400m freestyle, 15th, 4mins 10.35secs; 400m individual medley, 11th, 4mins 43.61secs; 100m freestyle, 30th, 54.77secs; 200m freestyle, 21st, 1min 58.20secs; and 200m backstroke, 17th, 2mins 16.43secs.

Andrew Bushall gained personal best times in all of his freestyle events - 50m freestyle, 15th, 24.75secs; 100m freestyle, 16th, 53.92secs; and 200m freestyle, 38th, 2mins 0.89secs.

In the 14 to 15-year-old age group, Aisha Thornton swam three personal best times, knocking more than 20 seconds off both her 800m and 1,500m freestyle times in 9mins 16.79secs and 17mins 51.31secs respectively.

Those efforts will result in her being ranked within the top 10 in her individual age group in the country.

Also swimming at her first Nationals in that age group was Vicki Boswell, who was 44th in the 200m backstroke in 2mins 30.38secs.
