WARRINGTON Athletics Club's Phil Knowles has his sights firmly fixed on more major championships after shaking off injury to win two gold medals in Poland.
The veteran sprinter hopes to be in Italy for the World Championships next year and Slovenia for the European Championships in 2008.
And the 46-year-old from Birchwood has been boosted in that aim after winning gold medals in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays at the European Veterans Championships staged in Poznan.
Knowles, a teacher at Priestley College and fitness instructor at The Village Hotel, did not complete the 200m final due to an ankle injury but helped the national relay teams strike gold 24 hours later in the over 45s age group.
He finished fifth in the 100m final and reached the semi finals of the 400m.
Knowles, who was a gold medallist in the 400m and 4x400m in the European Championships of 2000 in Finland, was a 400m semi finalist in the World Masters Championships in Spain last year.
