Bank Quay Bulls 36 Castleford Panthers 4.
BANK Quay Bulls rugby league team will play Leigh Miners Rangers in the Champions Challenge Final on Saturday.
The showdown to the prestigious pre-season competition will start at 3pm at Twist Lane.
Bulls reached their first Champions Challenge Final with an excellent victory over National League Division Two champions Castleford Panthers at Leigh Miners on Saturday.
Bank Quay, who will be playing in the North West Counties Premier Division next season, took the lead after 10 minutes when elusive full back Kiel Hillman was the first to react to a kick to score by the posts. Man of the match Dean Braddish added the extra points.
Bulls stayed on the attack and after Ste Calley had split the defence with a pass to Phil Braddish, Alan Clare was in support to go over for a try converted by Dean Braddish.
Castleford had the better of the play for most of the half, with Bank Quay having to defend set after set in their own quarter, but Bulls increased their lead shortly before half time with Phil Braddish powering his way over. Dean Braddish landed the conversion.
Within five minutes of the restart Bank Quay had taken the game away from the Yorkshire side with Paul Cragg finishing off a fine handling move and Phil Braddish crossing for his second of the afternoon.
Panthers scored an unconverted try but Bank Quay finished strongly with centre Lee Smith showing his strength and pace to score two tries in as many minutes. Dean Braddish added one more conversion.
Bank Quay will stage a rugby league forum at their Bank Quay Sports Club base on September 24. The event is part of Mike Wainwright's Testimonial and tickets, £10, are available from the club.
