RICHIE Myler is aiming to take the pressure in his stride when he pulls on the Warrington Wolves jersey for the first time.

Super League’s most expensive teenager will treat Boxing Day as just another day at the office when he makes his debut for the Challenge Cup holders against his hometown club Widnes Vikings at the Stobart Stadium, kick off 3pm.

Signed by Wolves for around £200,000 from Salford City Reds, the 19-year-old is remarkably calm despite the huge amount of expectation placed upon his young shoulders.

“I don’t really feel the pressure, I’ve just got to do my job and do it right, that’s all,” said Myler.

“But even if there is, I think that’s where I play my best rugby, when there’s most expectation.”

Myler represented England in the Four Nations tournament in October and his two tries that swung the game against France only helped to add to the anticipation felt by the Wolves fans.

Spending three months with some of his new teammates and boss Tony Smith in the England camp has helped Myler acclimatise quickly to life with Wolves.

“I’m really enjoying it. All the boys have made the change very easy for me and I’m settling in well,” he said.

Wolves’ head of coaching and rugby Smith has also commented on how quickly the scrum half has fitted in with the rest of the squad.

The feeling of camaraderie in the Wolves dressing room means that Myler cannot wait to take to the field in primrose and blue.

He said: “I will feel a great deal of pride in pulling on the Wolves shirt for the first time and I cannot wait to play for my new club.”

He is also eager just to play rugby, as, after a couple of months without a game, he is desperate to take to the field against Wolves’ old rivals.

“I’m feeling ready to go,” he said.

“I think it will be a forwards game as the pitch will be sluggish. It’ll be Groundhog Day and I prefer it to be nice and fresh but I’m not sure that’s going to happen.”

The team will be well prepared, whatever the weather, as new strength and conditioning trainer Chris Baron has already impressed Myler with the new regime.

He said: “It’s totally different to what I’ve done before but it’s really good.

“You know exactly what you need to do and when and as there is a lot of competition for places, you have to do the work or you won’t make the grade.”

Wolves have named their side to face Paul Cullen’s Vikings in Saturday’s World of Beds Cup clash.

Myler starts at number seven with Richie Mathers as his half-back partner.
