WOLVES winger Chris Hicks is confident of a return to action at Castleford tomorrow, Saturday.

A groin strain has kept the 32-year-old Australian out of his side's last three games but he is now raring to go after coming through training this week unscathed.

Hicks had been due to make his comeback in last week's 25-24 Challenge Cup quarter-final win at Hull KR until a late recurrence of his injury caused his withdrawal.

But Warrington's top try-scorer is hopeful he has now overcome the problem and believes he will be available for selection at The Jungle.

He said: "I'm right to play this week and I'm looking forward to it because it's been really hard watching.

"I was pretty close to getting back last week but I just tweaked the injury in training.

"I just felt I wasn't right and there's no use getting into a game and possibly re-injure it."

Forced to watch the victory against Hull KR on television, Hicks says it is not an experience he is keen to repeat.

Hicks was gutted to miss out on the drama at Craven Park and was equally as disappointed that his injury came at a time when he was hitting a rich vein of form.

The former Manly star had scored 10 tries and 94 points in the four games prior to being sidelined and is hoping to reach the same levels of performance on his return.

He said: "It wasn't much fun when I knew I wasn't right to play but it was good to see the boys get through.

"I'm not very good when I'm watching the game. It was a pretty mad household on Saturday because I was scaring my wife and the baby by shouting so much.

"When there were major incidents like the scrum at the end of the first 80 minutes, I was getting a bit overexcited but I couldn't really help it.

"There's a real buzz around the club now and I really want to get back because I think I had started to do pretty well before I got injured."

But, upon his return, Hicks does not expect to immediately resume goalkicking duties.

He says Chris Bridge's perfect performance with the boot against Rovers, kicking four goals from four attempts, means he has earned the right to keep the role.

"All the kicks in that game were big kicks and Bridgey stepped up and did it," said Hicks.

"I've not kicked a ball for almost a month and he's been kicking really well so I don't see why I should come back and take over the goalkicking straight away."
