KYLE Chapman made sure he will finish at least as joint 2009 champion in the Warrington Borough Junior Bowls League Premier Division after a 15-9 victory in his final match against Mat Gatley.

But a 15-10 defeat to Adam Lea in the opening match on Saturday means Chapman looks set to share the title with Danny Roberts, providing Roberts wins his final match on Saturday.

Liam Sullivan will finish the season in third place, with Adam Lea in fourth.

Mike Roberts became First Division champion following victories against Mike Yule, 15-11, and Izaak Lowe, 15-8.

It was a close-run thing though, with Scott Brown finishing runner up by only one point. James Maher finished the season in third place and Thomas Chapman in fourth.

Jack Penketh remains the firm favourite to win the newcomers division and will secure the title next week, providing he scores double figures in his final match.

Chloe Mackintosh looks set to finish second, with Sophie Bishop, Owen Garret and Amy Mackintosh finishing third, fourth and fifth respectively.

Meanwhile, thanks to development work by Warrington Borough Bowls Club, the town is able to field two under 16s junior teams this year.

The A team, made up of players from the Premier Division, play in the National League, while the B team, including players from the First Division, compete in the North West Team Championship.

On Sunday, the B team defeated arch rivals Widnes 8-4 in the second round.

Mike Roberts maintained his fine form with another good victory, while his closest rival in the league Scot Brown won player of the match after a great fightback saw him win 21-19.

Mat Gatley won his game 21-20, Jack Harper had a good victory and Mike Yule was unlucky to lose 21-20.
