PHIL Archer headed out on to the 2010 Ryder Cup course today, Thursday, hoping some of his 2006 experience will give him a timely tonic.

Archer’s latest European Tour event saw him swing into action at the Celtic Manor Wales Open in Newport, the scene of his fifth-place finish three years ago.

The 37-year-old has only been able to dream of that kind of form during his current dip but he may take some inspiration from his achievement of 10 under par in 2006.

The Birchwood professional’s Tour card is under threat, slipping a further four places to 144th in the rankings after failing to make the cut at the weekend’s European Open at The London Golf Club in Ash, Kent.

His two rounds of 75 and 74 saw him finish in 101st spot and he could now do with a big pay day to claw his way back into the all-important top 118 rankings.
