WOLVES head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith is aiming to destroy long-standing perceptions of the club in the quest to make them a top-level team.

Smith's side have won two games on the bounce, against Hull and Wigan, with both victories built on superb defence.

Those performances have been called un-Warrington-like, going against the typical view of Wolves as a team who are exciting in attack yet fragile in defence.

Smith is offended by the stereotypes but says it is up to him to create new ones.

He said: "Without a doubt, the most pleasing bit of the last couple of weeks has been our defence. I’m pleased for the players.

"Once they get that sort of commitment for one another, they start to expect it from one another on a more regular basis and that’s hopefully what we’re building here.

"I’ll be pleased when defences like that are Warrington-like rather than un-Warrington-like. When we get to that stage we know we’re doing OK.

"I take it almost as a bit of an insult that we’re talking that way and when we get it round to the other way it’ll be a compliment."
