BRIDGE Foot Police Amateur Boxing Club enjoyed success at the Priory Park show in Dudley on Sunday.

Joanne Dutton lost a very close split decision against K Hayes of First Class ABC in the women’s ABA quarter finals, despite putting on a superb display of boxing on her debut.

Fourteen-year-old Declan West won a well-matched contest against Priory Park’s M Taqdees.

West’s sleek movement and power, took him to a well-deserved win against his opponent, who was tall and a good counter-boxer.

James Smith, also 14, followed that with another outstanding contest against J Heywood, also of Priory Park.

Not fazed by his strong southpaw opponent, Smith kept throwing combinations throughout the three rounds, earning him a well-deserved win.

The last of the Bridgefoot boxers was Danny Craven.

Despite not boxing since representing England in Poland, where he lost to Polish champion R Percznski, Craven was back in good form.

Putting in an excellent performance against Priory Park’s national finalist B Plant, his speed and accurate shots took him to a unanimous win.

The previous weekend had also brought success for Bridgefoot on the Isle of Man.

Cruiserweight Michael Owen McKay made his debut against local Manx boxer M Dillon at the Hilton Hotel in Douglas.

The tall, rangy Dillon was unable to cope with McKay’s work rate and power, taking a standing count in the first 30 seconds of the first round He continued after the count of eight, only to be knocked down by a right hand 20 seconds later and counted out, giving McKay a first round knock out.

On Sunday, Bridgefoot’s junior cruiserweight Danny Hodge, boxes G Nielson in the semi finals of the Junior ABAs in Scunthorpe.
