WOLVES head of coaching and rugby Tony Smith has called on his players to prove they deserve a place in his team.

The challenge has come despite a run of five wins in six games, including Friday’s superb 16-8 win against Wigan and Smith has not ruled out making changes for the Challenge Cup tie at Hull KR.

Chris Hicks (groin) and Paul Johnson (shoulder) are both back in full training after missing the last two games, meaning Warrington could have a clean bill of health for the first time this season.

In the quest for continued improvement on the pitch, Smith has no qualms about changing a winning team and is keen to keep all his players on their toes.

He said: “We’re all about continual improvement. There is a desire by players to get better and that’s a good thing.

“Most human beings have the desire to improve and there’s a lot of that in our team.

“The desire to perform well for your mate is a really important part of rugby league as well and they’re doing that for each other.

“To perform to keep your job is a good thing too and there’s plenty of competition there at the moment.

“We’ve got some fit and healthy people and some young people who are sitting on the sidelines waiting for their go and that keeps people on their toes.

“It’s a great problem to have and that’s the only problem I want to have as a coach - the dilemma of selection because there’s a lot of talented people ready to go and wanting to play.

“We’re all just about fit and healthy so it’s a good problem to have.”
