ON-LOAN Wolves players Kevin Penny and Steve Pickersgill made their debuts for bitter rivals Widnes last night.

The pair linked up with former Warrington coach Paul Cullen at the Stobart Stadium Halton this week on month-long deals.

Penny started on the right wing and Pickersgill came off the bench during the 46-30 Co-operative Championship win against Gateshead Thunder.

It had looked like the young Wolves would suffer disastrous debuts when Vikings went 24-0 down during the first half.

Penny had seen little of the ball during that opening spell but made his mark on the game as the tide turned.

The 21-year-old winger impressively claimed a high bomb to set up the opportunity for Jim Gannon to score just behind half time and cut the gap to 24-12.

A couple of trademark Penny bursts got the crowd on their feet and he then blew the roof off by scoring the try that put Widnes ahead for the first time.

Penny blazed past the defence to touch down James Webster's long kick to the corner and crown a solid debut.

Pickersgill put in a couple of solid shifts but looked short of match fitness as he continues his recovery after knee reconstruction surgery.
