GRAPPENHALL won at Christleton at the weekend.
On an excellent cricket wicket, which offered just enough for the bowler, Grappenhall elected to bowl first.
While wickets were hard to come by, Grappenhall controlled the first 25 overs, restricting the opposition to two runs per over.
Steve Titchard bowled tightly with good support from G Burns, who had little luck.
All the bowlers bowled creditably and restricted Christleton to 185 for 3 from their 50 overs.
In reply, Grappenhall got off to a poor start, being 14 for 3, aided by a couple of dubious decisions.
However, Will Sharp, 56, and Titchard, 73 not out, worked hard in a partnership of 113 and it looked as though Grappenhall would win comfortably.
However, after the loss of Sharp, and a flurry of cheap wickets, Grappenhall finally edged home in the penultimate over thanks largely to Titchard’s resolve, ability and knowing how to `finish a game`.
