RYLANDS Cricket club were held to a draw by Wilmslow Wayfarers on Saturday.

Batting first, Rylands posted a useful 146 for 9 on a slow-paced wicket, Eddie Platt leading the way with a chanceless 57 before being run out.

Rylands’ bowlers then ripped into Wilmslow’s batsmen but in fading light the last pair blocked out for the final eight overs to force a draw, closing on 111 for 9. Andy Harrison starred with 5 for 28.

On the same day Rylands’ second XI settled for a draw in their Division Four clash with Wilmslow.

Rylands’ bowlers toiled in the strong winds as the runs mounted but veteran off spinner Bond Bateson, 4 for 52, gave them an outside chance of victory as Wilmslow finished on 193 for 6.

The loss of early wickets meant Rylands’ middle order were content to settle for a draw but a few lusty blows from Ste Howarth, 40, allowed them to close on 125 for 4.

Rain forced the abandonment of the under 15s’ match at Appleton on Sunday.

The home side totalled 88 for 8, Rylands’ Nick Whibley taking 3 for 6, and the visitors looked well set at 29 for 1 off six overs before the abandonment.

It was a similar story as the under 13s hosted Warrington. Chasing Warrington’s 73 all out, Rylands were 34 for 2 from 10 overs when rain forced the players off.

Rylands are looking to recruit players at under 13s, under 15s and under 18s levels.
