Rylands 12 Bank Quay Bulls 30
BANK Quay Bulls retained the Carlsberg Warrington Cup after late tries helped them avoid a shock upset against Rylands.
Taking control of the early stages, Bulls went ahead when man of the match Anthony Braide scored from close range.
Rylands gave away several penalties to keep Bank Quay on the attack and they increased their lead when Anthony Braide sent in Nick Braide.
On the half-hour mark, Bank Quay struck again, as Andy Bennett split the defence with a pinpoint pass for Danny Woods to cross, John Braddish converting.
Bulls had a player sin-binned and Rylands scored when Bennett’s pass was intercepted by Mark Forster who raced between the posts to score, Liam Walsh adding the extras.
As tempers flared in the final minutes before the break, two Bulls’ players and one for Rylands were sent to the sin bin.
But it was a surprise that both teams were back to full strength before a spell of Rylands pressure produced a try for Liam Walsh, which he also converted.
Rylands could sense the chance of a cup upset but a rare Bulls attack saw John Braddish set up Nick Braide for his second try.
Bulls went on to give the final score a flattering look as a Jamie Evans break produce a try for David Yii, which Mike Stewart converted.
Bulls completed the scoring in the last minute with a Frankie Bird try, converted by Mike Stewart.
