LYMM Rugby Club’s under 12s capped an impressive season with national tournament success at Twickenham.

Having already won the Cheshire Cup, plus the Rochdale, Manchester, Stockport and Macclesfield tournaments, Lymm beat Dorset champions Wimborne in the semi final and Ripon, the Yorkshire champions, in the final.

Lymm knew Ripon well, having already beaten them in the group stages of the qualifying tournament, played over Easter weekend.

They knew their opponents, who otherwise had enjoyed an unbeaten season, would provide a tough challenge and Lymm started the game on the back foot.

But Ripon could not make their pressure count and Lymm’s forward power, pace, and a rock solid defence soon gave them a foothold.

A try just before half time from Alexander Mansfield-Hickman, was just reward for Lymm's efforts. The second half was played almost entirely in the Ripon half as Lymm pushed for a second try to close the match down. Although the breakthrough did not come, the final whistle did and Lymm were crowned national champions, receiving their trophy from former England international Gareth Chilcott.
