WARRINGTON Wolves prop forward Paul Wood is going to work this morning expecting to watch TV.

Not Jeremy Kyle, This Morning, Loose Women or some other daytime TV though.

“We might have won at Hull on Saturday but you can guarantee that it’s going to be a massive video session on Monday,” said Wood.

“Tony Smith is going to be looking for improvement in our next game against Wigan.”

And that is the way Smith works.

“Tony’s very big on improving every single week,” said Wood.

“He looks at performances rather than wins and I think that’s really important.”

Wood added: “I think Tony has got all the lads looking at the same goal and that’s a good thing.

“Everyone’s pulling in the same direction, the right direction.

“And the team spirit at the moment is fantastic.

“I think everyone can see on the pitch that if someone produces a big hit or scores a try, there’s a reaction from the players in congratulating each other.

“Tony’s really big on that, too. It’s a team sport at the end of the day and we need to play as a team. You can’t win a game with individuals.”

Against Hull on Saturday Wood predicted to Paul Rauhihi midway through the second half, when they still trailed 16-6, that Wolves would repeat the previous season’s last-gasp two-point win.

On that occasion, Chris Hicks booted over a touchline conversion to Matt King’s 80th-minute touch down to seal the victory but with both missing out with injury this time it was Vinnie Anderson who provided the heroics with the match-winning try in the 73rd minute.

Wood said: “I wasn’t involved in the win last year, although I was there watching.

“When I came off in the second half on Saturday I said to Paul Rauhihi I could see us doing the same thing again.

“I could see the game was tight and the way that we were playing.

“It was good to get in front with about 10 minutes to go insteadof leaving it until the last minute this time.

“It was still nerve-wracking though when there were a few dropped balls towards the end but we dug deep and defended really well.”

Wood feels Wolves were down on their energy levels in the first half before coming good in the second period.

“Our energy systems just looked a bit flat in the first half.

“Because we didn’t have a lot of the ball in the first 10 to 15 minutes and Hull were all over us, it takes it out of you defensively.

“Once we started playing with the ball and not making as many errors – meaning we weren’t making as many tackles – our energy systems were up.

“We cut the errors down and gave less penalties away and it perked us up a bit. That really helped us in the second half.”
