GRAPPENHALL'S third XI were humbled against a very good Hyde team.

The home side made hard work for themselves with some poor bowling, with Hyde’s opening bat Humphreys scoring 115.

Adam Roylance was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with 2 for 18 from seven overs, keeping the visitors to 231 for 7 in their 45 overs.

Misplaced confidence in hunting down the total was soon distinguished with six of Grappers’ top seven all going cheaply.

Only Neil Muttock, 16, offered any resistance but that was too little and Grappenhall capitulated to a miserable 47 all out with 23 overs still to spare.

Grappenhall’s over 40s secured victory over Toft in their fiirst outing of the season.

With the game evenly balanced, pace man Steve Tetlow slowed down the run rate with figures of 1 for 18 from four overs to swing the balance in Grappers’ favour.

Roylance finished with 3 for 26 as Toft, needing 11 runs from the final over, fell short by five runs.

Grappenhall had set a target of 110 from their 20 overs, with new opener Steve Newel, 34, and evergreen number three Merv Roberts, 30, retiring on maximum scores.

Mike Moss smashed a quickfire 18 that included two huge sixes.
