GARRETH Carvell is not expecting a homecoming celebration when he returns to Hull FC with Wolves on Saturday, kick off 6pm.

The barrel-chested prop sent eight years at the club before leaving for The Halliwell Jones Stadium at the end of last season.

Carvell’s departure came in acrimonious circumstances, the 28-year-old performing a dramatic u-turn after signing a three-year deal at Hull to request a move.

And Carvell is expecting to be public enemy number one at the KC Stadium as a result.

He said: “I’m looking forward to it. I’m not expecting them to greet me with open arms but it’ll be great to get back to Hull and play at the KC again because it’s a fantastic stadium and they always bring a good crowd in there.

“They’ve been struggling for a bit of form, as have we, so it’ll be a good game.

“I live three doors away from Ewan Dowes so there’s a bit of banter flying about and I’ve received a few text messages from my old teammates.

“It’s always good to play against your old club and it gives a bit of extra spice to the game. It’ll be difficult.”

Carvell says he enjoyed his time at Hull FC but knew, at the end of last year, the time was right for him to move on.

Despite a difficult start to the season with his new club, he has no regrets about joining Wolves.

The England international feels the move has reinvigorated him and is excited about what Warrington can achieve in the coming years.

He said: “I was there seven years and I enjoyed every single second.

“But it was time to move on for me, time for a change and the Warrington club are great, they’re looking forward to the future.

“With the team that we’ve got we should be there already but we’ve put things in place in order to reach our potential.

“Tony Smith’s here now and he’s probably classed as one of the best coaches around so it’s one that there’s a lot of expectation on us and it’s time we started fulfilling it.

“I’ve got no regrets, I’m really enjoying my time here. I’ve got three years and I’m looking forward to them.”

He added: “I’ve been pleased with my performances but there’s still a lot left in me, I want to perform a lot better.

“I was in need of a change from Hull and coming to Warrington gave me a spring in my step and a new lease of life. I feel like I’ve just started playing again, which is great.

“I was unfortunate to get injured early on but hopefully I’ve bounced back pretty quickly and I just want to play as many games as I can for Warrington and get some trophies here, which we desperately crave.”
