EAGLE lost 3-2 to Knowsley South in the Liverpool Junior Cup Final.
They hit the front on the half-hour mark when Ian Berry found the net but 10 minutes later Knowsley South drew level and then went ahead five minutes into the second half.
Eagle equalised through Chris Thompson in the 60th minute but the Merseysiders scored the winner in the 80th minute.
The Thornton Road boys had to get the pain of the cup defeat out of their system quickly as a promotion place was at stake when they met Whitchurch Alport in the Cheshire Soccer League Second Division.
They clinched the all-important second place thanks to a 4-3 win against Whitchurch, with nearest rivals Moore United missing out on moving up.
Eagle gave themselves the shot at second place when they won 2-1 at Moore on Saturday.
